How Did Leighton Meester Really Feel About Gossip Girl?
Now that the reboot of Gossip Girl is sort of available for streaming on HBO Max, fans are chatting about it a lot, and fans have some problems with the show.
While everybody is keen to try the brand new display and see what it's like, nothing can substitute the unique teenager drama, as it lives on for such a lot of TV fans who re-watch it steadily. One of the most well liked characters is Blair Waldorf, and enthusiasts were thankfully following along with Leighton Meester's career ever since. While she's a mother now, she doesn't share much about her daughter, but she has talked about her existence on Gossip Girl in a couple of interviews.
How did Leighton Meester really feel about playing this character? Let's take a look.
Leighton's True Feelings
Penn Badgley has shared that he didn't love playing Dan Humprhey, but what about Leighton Meester?
Leighton shared that while people always ask if she misses being on Gossip Girl, she feels content that it's left prior to now.
In an interview with Elle, Leighton mentioned, "And I understand that, but—and I say this with nothing but love—it is like saying, ‘High school was an amazing time for you, do you wish you could go back?’ And the truth is, it was so special and such a unique, amazing experience, but no, I wouldn’t wanna go back to it, I was a kid!”
Leighton said that Gossip Girl wasn't "the healthiest atmosphere" in an interview with PorterEdit. She said that she began working on the show at a young age and, "Much more folks had been around and I was being checked out."
Leighton continued, “If you don’t have the right perspective, you could definitely be confused by people being that nice to you or judging you for behavior that’s typical of a 20, 21 year old… making mistakes but having to make them very publicly. I’m not haunted by that time, but it’s been interesting and helpful for me to look at it and examine it as an adult and go, ‘I don’t know if it was the healthiest environment.’”
According to PorterEdit, Leighton and her mom began living in New York City after Florida when her parents got divorced. Her mom gave birth to her while in jail because of drug trafficking. Her dad, Doug, was in jail as well.
Leighton went to Los Angeles at 14, began working in commercials and as a model, and after getting her high school diploma at the age of 16, she could tell that acting was definitely the thing that she wanted to do.
The actress explained the tough filming schedule as Gossip Girl shot in a studio in Long Island five days a week for 16 hours at a time.
Life On 'Gossip Girl'
For many fans, Blair Waldorf is a beloved character, super stylish and yet able to show her true feelings in a single glance. While she rules her private high school for a long time, she's actually a much sweeter person than she appears to be, despite her adoration of scheming. Blair's long on and off-again love story with Chuck Bass is also what has drawn fans into the show and made it feel impossible to stop watching.
Blair went through so much on the dramatic series. In season 1, she struggled with her parents' lack of attention and affection, and over the next few seasons she had several love interests, from Marcus to Louis, but no one stole her heart the way that Chuck did.
In 2017, a Vanity Fair article shared some great behind-the-scenes secrets about Gossip Girl, and creator Josh Schwartz shared a story about Leighton's audition. He said that she had blonde hair so she had to be a brunette: “She came in and she was really funny, and really smart and played vulnerable. But there was one problem: she was blonde. And Blake was blonde, obviously; Serena had to be blonde. So, [Leighton] went to the sink and dyed her hair. She wanted it.’”
The show was so successful that everyone is excited about the reboot,
It's interesting to hear Leighton Meester's thoughts about starring on Gossip Girl, and it totally makes sense that she would look back on it fondly but not want to go back in time and do it all over again. Leighton is now 35, married to Adam Brody, and the mother of two children, and she has accomplished so much in her career, from starring on the hilarious sitcom Single Parents to appearing in many movies, from The Oranges to Life Partners and The Roommate.
